The National Weather Service warns of dangerous below-zero wind chills accompanying heavy snow through Wednesday.
Travel will be “very difficult to impossible,” the Sheriff’s Office said, with deep snow cover on roads and very poor visibility. Lake effect snow typically falls in relatively narrow bands, meaning road conditions and visibility can change rapidly.
Summit County is under a Level 1 snow emergency as lake-effect snow brings blowing, drifting snow and icy conditions across the area.
Cold air dives into WNY from Sunday into early next week, setting the stage for lake effect snow. Winds gusting near 45mph will cause poor visibility and blowing and drifting snow.
Lake effect snow has been pummeling the Buffalo southtowns since moving southward across the metro area earlier Monday. Snow by the foot may result in part of the southtowns as a result.
The parade of clipper storms packing steady snow, snow squalls and lake-effect snow will continue in waves from the Midwest to the Northeast into Thursday.
