Mathilde Gremaud has successfully defended her Olympic freeski slopestyle title and denied Eileen Gu a gold medal for a second straight Winter Games.

The Olympic slopestyle war between Mathilde Gremaud and Eileen Gu rages on. The Swiss skier successfully defended her gold in the women’s slopestyle final on Monday morning and held off the Gu, who was born in America but competes for China, for the second straight Winter Olympics in a very close competition.

Switzerland's Mathilde Gremaud held on to her Olympic title in slopestyle freestyle skiing on Monday, in a gripping contest in the Italian Alpine town of Livigno at the Milano Cortina Olympics.

Freestyle Skiing has been part of the Winter Games’ program since 1988. The exciting sight of athletes soaring through the sky has been an exciting sight for fans. In 2014, in Sochi, Slopestyle was added, with competitors having the chance to show off their skills and finesse while throwing caution to the wind with high-flying action.

Gu is the youngest-ever Olympic champion in freestyle skiing. She will compete at the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan beginning Feb. 7.
