Lego has redesigned its brick for the first time since 1958
The Lego company has not made any major redesigns to its brick since the debut of the modern brick in 1958, so this is pretty big news. But what does it mean? In a continuation of screenless play, Lego is not trying to make the brick something it isn't, in this case, but simply offers an elevated experience for all ages.
The Danish toy maker Lego on Jan 5 unveiled a new interactive building brick at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, describing it as one of the most important developments of the Lego system in decades.
Joss Ivanwood, a Lego creator with over 175k followers on Instagram, utilized a pre-designed construction kit from the brand's botanical collection, turning a potted orchid into a floralized version of the otherwise horrifying Demogorgon, and fans can't wait to try their own hands at the unique adaptation.
The new sensor-packed Smart Play Brick will land this spring as part of a special Star Wars collection. The update adds interactive lights and sound to the Lego experience—including the minifigs.
